Experience

There is nothing better than experience, someone said. The career of Tim Powell in the blind industry commenced in 1980 when he joined Perma Blinds. This was a successful wholesaling, manufacturing, contracting organisation even dabbling in retail. It will be remembered by many in the industry as the first company to set up individuals and companies as manufacturers of blinds. Many of those are still operating very successfully to this day. In 2022 Tim became the Business Development Director at Smartlouvre who manufacture MicroLouvre; the world’s thinnest and lightest metal louvre fabric.

Sales

Tim served his time on the shop-floor and in fitting before finding his forte in sales. He was successful as a salesman both to retail and wholesale customers before gravitating to contracting. Most of his activities focussed on architects, design partnerships and specifiers when he set up in Horsham , Sussex in 1989.

Projects

The success achieved in sales saw the establishment of a production facility in the West Midlands. However, demand saw the need to offer a broad range of products which were sourced largely from members of the British Blinds and Shutters Association (BBSA). The projects carried out over the next two and a half decades read like a list of major new buildings and conversions mainly in and around the London area, but also further afield.

Knowledge

Powell Blinds has come to be accepted as having a real depth of knowledge and experience of the best solutions in terms of products to satisfy the most difficult requirements. The last thirty five years has given Tim Powell an almost unrivalled ability in the sourcing products and management of projects.
